Artist Statement:

A man takes centre stage, commanding attention with his confident presence. I aim to capture the essence of performance, as the man stands under spotlight, his body language exuding charisma and passion. Posing with his arms sawing, he exudes elegance as well as playfulness, imagining he is a butterfly. 

However, what truly sets this artwork apart is the unexpected presence of an orange slice in the centre of the painting. Its presence ads a touch of surrealism to the artwork, blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy. This unexpected placement sparks curiosity and intrigue. 

My choice to combine these contrasting elements prompts contemplation on the nature of performance and the role of imagination in our lives. It raises questions about the masks we wear and personas we adopt when we step onto the stage of life. Are we all performers navigating our way through life? and does our imagination play a crucial role in shaping our identities and experiences?

I invite you to reflect on the complexities of human existence, the power of imagination and the interplay between reality and fantasy.
